about

This song was inspired by the amazing work done by singing groups such as Musical Memories and Reminis-Sing supporting people living with dementia and those that care for them.

Due to the way that music is stored in many parts of the human brain, including areas connected to emotions, it has been found that people living with dementia are often still able to connect with music, play instruments and sing, even when they are generally unable to communicate.

The song was recorded over lockdown by myself and friends in the UK and USA (some of whom I've known for almost 30 years) along with my son and my dad. All of whom generously gave their time and talents fro free (despite having lost much of their own income) so that all proceeds will go to support these groups and other initiatives supporting vulnerable people.

lyrics

Old Father Time's such a bitter man
Keeps taking things out of my head
So many details get lost in my mind
Replaced by a cruel fog instead
Sometimes it helps when I travel
In a time machine wrapped in a song
Tunes from my youth and the love I felt then
Restores what I thought was long gone

So sing me a memory
Something I can feel
Play me a song that the years can't steal
Music endures and the love never ends
So sing me a memory
My faithful friends

Day to day living gets harder
Sometimes I don't know where I am
Life gets frustrating
I can't find my way
I feel like a lost little lamb
Singing with friends brings me home again
Like a doorway to happier days
Memories fade but the feelings remain
Help me find my way out of the maze

Music brings joy
Shafts of light in an old dusty room
Awakens my soul
Brightens my eyes
Brings me to life
