Joy To The World

from Comfort & Joy by David Woodman

/

about

The carol Joy to the World was written by Isaac Watts and set to the tune Antioch, written by George Frederick Handel. Although sung at Christmas it is really about the Second Coming of Jesus. In this version I've taken some of Isaac's original words and added in a chorus which relates more to the Incarnational nature of Jesus' First Coming.

lyrics

Joy to the world, the Lord has come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare him room
And heaven and nature sing (x3)

Joy to the earth, the saviour reigns
Let all, their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy (x3)

God so loved the world, he gave
His one and only Son,
Eternal life, amazing grace
Good news for everyone

He rules the world with truth and grace
and makes the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness
And wonders of his love (x3)

God so loved the world, he gave
His one and only Son,
Eternal life, amazing grace
Good news for everyone

Bringing joy to the world
