In The Land Of Promise

from Comfort & Joy by David Woodman

about

The traditional carol, In The Bleak Midwinter was written by Christina Georgina Rossetti and set to the tune Cranham, written by Gustav Holst. I wrote this update in an attempt to make the lyrics more accurate.

lyrics

In the Land of Promise
Born in Bethlehem
The Lord of all creation
In his fullness came
From the heights of heaven
Down to earth below
In the Land of Promise
Long ago

Our God, heaven cannot hold him
Nor earth sustain
Heaven and earth shall fall away
When he comes to reign
In the Land of Promise
A stable place sufficed
For the Lord Almighty
Jesus Christ

Angels and Archangels
May have gathered there
Cherubim and serapim's
Praises filled the air
But his mother only
In her maiden bliss
Worshipped her beloved
With a kiss

What then can I give him
Empty as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb
If I were a wise man
I would play my part
Yet what i have I'll give him
Give my heart
